Paul was the youngest of the children of A.B. and Katie Burt. He too grew up and attended school in the Little, and Shawnee, area. Paul was a Mason, and a Baptist. He was conservative in politics, very opinionated, and like most of the Burts, loved a good debate.
Paul dropped out of school in the 9th grade. It wasn't uncommon back then. His father only went to the 2nd grade, but had learned to read, write and 'cipher. Asbury had achieved success as a businessman, and Paul would as well. He worked at many jobs before he went into the plumbing business around 1949. Paul was a self made man, and became owner of his own plumbing shop and construction business.
In 1936 Paul met Gladys. They were married in November of that year, and had two daughters.
