Indiana
Virginia A. Franklin Smith Indiana Franklin was born in Bedford County, TN August 08, 1830. Her
mother ( but possibly grandmother) was Rachael Franklin. Her father is
unproven, but believed to be Peter Franklin. We have only tied her to one
sibling –
Lucinda Franklin Burt. There were others, as yet unknown. Like
Lucinda’s records show, her father was born in VA and her mother in NC,
although one record says SC. Lorenzo Smith was born July 22, 1824 in TN. His parents were Rev.
Joseph Smith and Elizabeth Shasteen of Moore County, TN. The 1860 TN Census of Franklin
County lists: SMITH, Lorenzo A., 35, Indiana
E. 29, Robert F. 9, Joseph H. 6, John L., 1 Rachael Franklin is enumerated
with them. She was enumerated with Alfred Burt and Lucinda Franklin Burt in
1850 another census. The 1880 TX Census of Denton
County lists: Luerenzo Smith 56 Farmer, B TN,
Father B SC Mother B SC Virginia , wife, 50, B TN,
Father B VA, Mother B NC John 21, Son Emily 17, Dau Unreadable but maybe Watson(??)
14 Son Unreadable but maybe James (??)
7 This Lorenzo A. is definitely
the same person. Indiana is obviously Virginia. I don’t know why her name is
different. Was Indiana a nickname? John was still living at home in 1880.
