Gladys Happy Patricia Magnolia Oconestoga Lowe Burt

These were all her names. Gladys, her given first name, Happy, her nickname, Patricia, her added middle name, Magnolia, her birth given middle name, Oconestoga, her Indian name, Lowe, family surname, and Burt, her married name. My elementary school classmates were always fascinated when I told them those names, and would come up to me, bringing some student that hadn’t heard the ramblings and ask me to tell them my Mother’s names. Sigh…. Guess I did have a bit of fame

      Born North of Meeker OK  in 1915, Gladys (Magnolia) Patricia Lowe was the third child, and first daughter to Thomas Franklin and Lucy Viola Wilkerson Lowe. She has often spoken of her wonderful childhood on her parents farm. They raised turkeys and cattle, along with raising crops to sell, and vegetables to feed the family of eventually 5 children.
She grew up working hard.  She milked cows, fed the turkeys on their turkey farm, and did all the general work a farm girl would do. When she was in high school she worked, keeping house and babysitting for room, board, and nominal wages. She was the salutatorian of her graduating class, and went off to college for a brief period. She went to work in Shawnee OK, at "Hamburger Joe's" (which later became "Hamburger King" and still stands today). It was there in 1936,  where she met, and after a whirlwind courtship, married Paul Burt at age 21.
Mom worked at Burt Plumbing, Burt's New and Used Furniture, and later owned and operated her own antique shop. Her priority in life was raising her two daughters. She had many friends, and belonged to A Book Club which had a monthly review, TOPS club for many years, and of course her church. She was (and is) a devoted Christian of strong faith. She was a member of the First Christian Church and took her daughters to Sunday School there. She  has always had an unwavering faith and lived what she believed.

Gladys is a temperate woman of gentle nature. She loves family, and she loves people for who they are.
Now 89, she is in good health and continues to be a role model to all who know her!
