Note: This information was researched and contributed to me by John McClure of TX in 1991. Thank you, John. Good job!!
John H. McDonald was born about 1806 in GA. and died before 1863 in Layfayette County (later Miller) Arkansas. He was married probably in GA to Sary M. Hightower b about 1810 in GA and married Angelina (Kemp?) some time before 1850. The name McDonald varied to McDaniel and McDonial.

RE: Conjectural Family Group Sheet of John H. McDonald.
Not known, at this time, if family name is McDonald, McDoniel, or McDaniel. My best guess is that it is is McDoniel. More research needs to be done. Date of birth of John H. McDonald estimated from censuses of 1850 and 1860. Date of death estimated from "old letter, dated 25 Dec 1863, and the appointment of the administrator of his estate which was dated 21 Oct 1863. Sary M. Hightower name derived from data sheet given me by Hazel Field, and tombstone erected by Paul Bankston. Sary probably not buried in Olive Branch Cemetery, as it is probable she died in Georgia. She is probably mother of Martha, John and Sarah. John H. probably remarried to Angelina Kemp. Kemp name derived from 1860 census because of the child Alzy J. Kemp, It seems probable that Angelina is the mother of Josephine of the 1850 census, and the mother of Alzy J. Kemp of the 1860 census. Is Josephine of 1850 the Alzy J. Kemp of 1860? The age seems right. Angeline remarried to John S. Patterson in 1870, and had right of dower in land belonging to John H. McDonald. Child #1:Martha Jane.- not much conjecture about her. Everything seems pretty clear. #2:John H. -not much conjecture about him. Everything reasonably clear. Married Sarah Melissa Yates and had a son Pleasant Alonzo. John H. possibly killed in Civil War. I've sent for his service record but don't have it yet. W. H. Yates assumed guardianship of Alonzo, his grandson, on 21 Oct 1863. #3:Sarah Amanda.- not much conjecture about her as everything seems reasonably clear. #4:Texas Jane.- I just don't know who she was. The date of birth estimated from her age at the time of her marriage to Anderson T. Baily. She shared equally in the estate of John H. McDonald, and her husband was administrator of said estate. Could she be the "Josephine" of the 185O census? Was"Texas Jane" just a nickname? She and 'Turk' are in the 1860 census of AR, but I can't find my copy of it right now. Other censuses are inclosed. Review of the Names in the "old letter": "Dear Sister Amanda": Sarah Amanda McDonald Taylor Horney Pilgrim. Taylor at the time letter was written. Turk" : Anderson Turk Bailey, a merchant at Bright Star. (Reference: Bloomburg, U,S,A., in Cullen Baker Country, p. 12) "Lese": Unknown. Could the name Lese be the diminutive of Louisa? Could she be Louisa E. Bailey who shared in the estate of John H. McDonald? Or could it be the diminutive of Melissa, the mother of Alonzo? "Jim Salems": James K. P. Sams, second husband of Sara Melissa Mcdonald. "Alonzo: Pleasant Alonzo McDonald, son of John H. McDonald, and nephew of Martha and Sarah. "Henry": Henry Bankston. 'M. L. Bankston": Should be I.!. J. (Martha Jane) Bankston. She made her "J" look like an "L".
Some notes: My uncle, Bruce Benton Horney, told me that Lizzie Ella related to him on more than one occasion about the Ox-Cart trip from Coryell County.Mrs. Christine Wommack, of Atlanta, TX, a grand-daughter of Lizzie Ella told me the same.}
