We visited Camden
County, MO, where our Wilkersons settled after 1850.
They homesteaded there for over 50 years. It was
beautiful down near Linn Creek, where most of these
listed had their endings or beginnings. Located just
NW of Camdenton, between what is now Lake of the
Ozarks and Ha Ha Tonka State Parks, the lush greenery
abounds. Remote, even almost 150 years later, I can
only imagine how scattered these kinfolk were, even
when enumerated one after another. Why so many of
these Wilkersons picked up and left such beauty is
yet to be discovered. Perhaps the promise or hope of
unassigned lands lured them to Oklahoma. Or, like some
believe, unclaimed Indian lands. We are unsure as
yet. But sometime, a little before the turn of the
century, they sold their land, packed the wagons, and
traveled to Oklahoma Territory. Statehood was nearly
a decade away! Cleveland County was first stop for
many of them. No longer were they surrounded by lush
greenery. They had landed smack dab in red clay and
scrub oak. But they prevailed!! This is their story,
as it unfolds. I have them listed (somewhat)
