Anna Magnolia Wilkerson

Nolie about 1915

Anna Mag Nolia Wilkerson was the daughter of Zachariah Wilkerson and Ida Robertson, "Nolie" was the twin, identical twin, to Lucy Viola Wilkerson Lowe. I know little about their childhood, Nolie was long dead by the time I was born, and Grandmother rarely mentioned her to me. She died in the flu epidemic of 1918. She had a four year old son, George(called "Little George" by the family). And a baby girl, Marie, when she died in that terrible outbreak that took so many lives. Grandmother had fretted so after her death, saying if she hadn't moved so far away (probably only about 50 miles) she could have taken care of her and she would have lived. She was in a weakened condition after having the baby, but Grandmother probably couldn't have saved her. She was married to Delmar Long, and had moved out near Noble or Norman, OK. (A lot of Wilkersons lived in Cleveland County, OK.) I did hear the story of how Delmar stopped visiting my grandparents after Nolie died, because he couldn't stand the pain of seeing Lucy, identical to Nolie. There were happy stories, too. Grandmother did laugh, and tell mother about when the girls switched beds to fool their husbands one night.....for a short time only. Neither husband knew the difference, until giggles from both beds alerted Tom and Delmar what was going on.

George Long, shortly before his death.

"Little" George Long ca 1926

George was only four years old when his mother died. His baby sister, Marie only three months old. Little George went to live with his
Grandmother, Ida Robertson Wilkerson Burke. His father was believed to have re-married, but we have not found evidence of that.
Little George wanted a gun for hunting. He begged and begged, and on his 13th birthday, his grandmother gave him one.
As the cruel hand of fate would have it, while going under a barbed wire fence, Little George accidentally, and fatally shot himself . The second tragedy of the Long family.

Marie Long Plumblee

Marie Long Plumlee

Marie, just three months old when her mother, Nolie,  died, was raised by her aunt and uncle, Mary Ellen and Bob Wilkerson. Marie was a young mother. She had
a baby girl. Tragedy struck again when Marie died just a few months short of her 19th birthday. The woman who had been a mother to her when her own mother died would now raise this new baby girl.
I remember this girl, and what a delight she was to Mel, and everyone else around her. But, how sad this family
had to have been. How short cut were the descendants of this twin, Nolie..
