Warner E. Wilkerson was born October 25, 1891 in Camden County, MO. He was the youngest of seven children, and the only son born to Zachariah and Ida Robertson Wilkerson. When Warner was only about eight years old, his parents packed up the wagon and moved from Camden County, near Linn Creek MO, to Cleveland County, near Noble, OK. Very shortly after their journey, Zachariah got sick and died. Leaving them to fend for themselves in the untamed lands of Oklahoma Territory. By 1900 Warner's mother, called "Ma" by all, was found enumerated in Pottawattomie County, Oklahoma Territory. We don't know yet why they left Cleveland County so soon and went to Pott. County, although it is only around 40 miles away. (We're still researching this, thinking perhaps it's where they settled originally). It was here, and in the bordering Lincoln County, that Warner was raised, married, had his own family, and died in 1975.

Muriel Martin Markwell Wilkerson was born January 22, 1900 in Maryville, MO. She was the daughter of Henry and Bertha Nicholas Martin. She first married Johnnie Markwell, and brought 5 year old son Johnnie Ray into the Wilkerson family with her when she and Warner were married March 7, 1925. Warner and Muriel brought eight more children into the world, including a set of twins (like many Wilkerson families!!) Aunt Muriel lived a long life and I was delighted to have known her during her last years. She died November 17, 1997, nearing the age of 98!
