Zachariah Taylor Wilkerson was born
December 14, 1853 in Camden County, Missouri to
James P. and Laurie Ann Phillips Wilkerson
. He was one of at least seven
children.
Ida Robertson , one
of also seven children, was born December 23, 1864, in Indiana or Illinois
to
Wash Robertson
and
Mary Ellen Beem.
Zachariah and
Ida married November
11, 1880 in Camden county MO.
Although the Camden County Courthouse
burned in the early 1900's, some records remain. We found a record of land
sale for Ida and Zachariah Wilkerson in 1898. So that's apparently
when they left for Cleveland County, Oklahoma in a wagon. It must have been
a sad day when Zachariah died and left Ida, six daughters and a young son
alone. It must have happened right after they arrived in Oklahoma because by
1900 Ida and the children were living in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma
Territory. Ida's nephew, Calvin Wilkerson (named for his grandfather,
but a son of Edward Thomas Wilkerson , and Burnetta Robertson, Ida's sister)
was living with them. Zachariah is buried in an unmarked grave in the Denver
Cemetery, Cleveland county, OK, as was told to us by his daughter,
Lula.
Lula also told us their family was of the
"Dunkard" religion. This is related to the "Church of the
Brethren".
Very little is known about Zachariah. He
died young, and we've never even found a photograph of him. The main thing
said about him was he was Indian. We haven't found the (supposedly Cherokee)
Indian heritage yet, but we are sure it exists.
I have to add to these writings, whether
it will save confusion or cause it, I don't know. But if you connect through
the Wilkerson and Robertson link, it needs to be addressed.
Calvin Wilkerson b 1824 and James Wilkerson b 1810
were brothers. Calvin had a son, Edward Thomas. James had a son, Zachariah.
Edward Thomas married Burnetta
Robertson, daughter of
Wash Robertson and Mary Ellen Beem
. Zachariah married
Ida Robertson,
daughter of the same. James' daughter, Amanda's son
Albert Palmer (Rowland) Rollins married Margaret Ellen, another Robertson
sister. Another son of Calvin, Robert Wilkerson
married Ida and Zachariah's daughter,
Mary Ellen (Mel).
Although, I will not follow the line further here, Mary Ellen and Robert
Wilkerson had a daughter Alpha that also married a Wilkerson. The offspring
of these families, double cousins plus, get somewhat, if not
DOWNRIGHT confusing.....
then there's the Cable/Wilkerson
connection............later.
